Marketing 101: Microsoft Does It Again!

They’re at it again those folks at Microsoft!  And it’s hard for the Marketing Doctor not to keep making an example of them!  But the geniuses in Redmond really don’t get it and you’re going to question if they ever will after you hear this one!

Ignoring Marketing 101, they have decided to forget their customers and love their product –Vista— more!  Wow!  Basically, they are going to be pulling Windows XP off the shelves in June in spite of the fact that the announcement has led to global protests and in spite of the fact that Microsoft CEO admits that Vista still has plenty of bugs!

Tantillo is no techie, but if he was Microsoft, he would listen to the techies out there in product testing land, especially to this
blog by an avowed Vista user who is pleading with Microsoft to remember that most of the world still uses XP, wants to keep using it, and wants to have choices!!!    And here’s a columnist from the Courant who says that the lack of choice will probably drive consumers to the many other non-Microsoft choices that are out there today!  Can anyone say Apple?

At this point, the best marketing decision would be for Microsoft to take a step back (delay or cancel XP’s extinction!), show that it takes its customers seriously and work out a solution that makes the company seem in touch with what computer users really need.  Because this time they’re just not the only game in town!  Stay tuned!

TODAY’S TANTILLO TAKEAWAY –

If your customers are howling that your brand is doing something wrong –you’d better listen and quick!
